When you get to the counter, and they are out, they won’t tell you. They will try to entice you into upgrading for a few bucks a day more. Don’t fall for it!
Hold out for the compact that you reserved, and they will upgrade you for free anyways. I’ve gone to Omaha, and got an SUV for around $20/day. If you do end up getting the compact, just turn around and tell him that you changed your mind and you’ll pay the $5/day extra or whatever it is, if you really want the upgrade.
