Starbucks has announced the release of a prepaid Visa rewards card. Instead of earning cashback or points like many other cards, you earn stars for Starbucks rewards. Stars can be earned no matter where you use the card. If you go to Starbucks all the time, this could be a nice perk.
There are no details on how many dollars it takes to earn a star, but their new rewards program increases the star count from 12 stars to 125 stars for a free drink. Assuming a free drink is about $5 in value, to surpass the Fidelity American Express cash-back rewards of 2%, you would have to earn one star for every $2 that you spend.
125 stars = $5 drink. $5/2% = $250 spent for 125 stars.
